Foster Practitioner Named Rural Health Champion!

January 9th, 2014

Cathleen “Joei” Jaderquist-Bassett, FNP/PA was presented as the recipient of the 2013 Rural Health Champion Award by Jill D’Errico of the Rhode Island Department of Health’s Office of Primary Care and Rural Health during Rhode Island’s recent celebration of National Rural Health Day.

Ms. Bassett is a family nurse practitioner who has been employed as a primary care provider at WellOne Primary Medical and Dental Care’s Foster Office since the facility opened in 2008. WellOne’s Foster office is the only provider of primary care services for the Town of Foster, southern Glocester, western Scituate and western Coventry.

Since receiving her FNP certification in 1982, Ms. Bassett has devoted her career to bringing primary health care services to underserved populations in rural regions of the USA. Prior to joining WellOne, Joei worked as a primary care provider at Wood River Health Services in Hope Valley. From 1982 to 2000, Ms. Bassett provided primary care services to a variety of underserved populations in a variety of rural settings in California and the Alaska Frontier. These settings included an Indian Health Center, a clinic for migrant Farmworkers and a student health clinic.

In presenting the award, the Department of Health recognized Ms. Bassett as a passionate advocate for public health who has worked tirelessly to improve the health status and quality of life for the patients that she serves.

“Joei embodies the mission of a community health center – to provide affordable, accessible high-quality healthcare to all”, stated WellOne President and CEO, Peter Bancroft. “Many, particularly in the Foster area, would be forced to forego medical services were it not for the dedication of people like her. WellOne, our patients, and the communities we serve, are the better for her contributions.”
