WellOne Welcomes New Behavioral Health Specialist in North Kingstown

WellOne Primary Medical and Dental Care welcomes Melanie Koehler, MS, RN, PCNS to its North Kingstown location at 308 Callahan Road.

Ms. Koehler, a Licensed Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist, joins Barry Giordano, LICSW, and the North Kingstown team to offer behavioral health counseling to WellOne patients and residents in the surrounding communities in addition to the primary medical and dental care services. Ms. Koehler provides psychiatric evaluation and prescription services to patients in addition to training to the other healthcare providers.

In her nearly 20 years experience, Ms. Koehler has provided nursing and consultative services to patients and colleagues, offered family and staff support, education, and referral, conducted comprehensive psychiatric assessment and diagnosis, utilized various therapeutic modalities in ongoing therapy, and serves as a Graduate School Adjunct Instructor at the University of Rhode Island’s College of Nursing.

Prior to her hiring at WellOne, Ms. Koehler has offered her services to such varied organizations as: NRI Community Services in Woonsocket, Koehler Consulting, Angell St. Psychiatry in East Greenwich, RI, and Stanley Street Treatment and Resources (SSTAR) in North Kingstown, RI.

Ms. Koehler received both a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing with a dual degree in Gerontology and Mental Health from the University of Rhode Island. She is an ANCC Board Certified Clinical Specialist in both Adult Psychiatric and Mental Nursing as well as Gerontological Nursing. Ms. Koehler is a 2011 recipient of the NRI Community Services, Community Champion Award as well as the 2004 recipient of the Rhode Island State Nurse’s President’s Award for Leadership.
