Recently, WellOne submitted its 2016 annual report to the Bureau of Primary Health Care. This report provides the federal government with various statistical and demographical information about WellOne and the patients that we serve. It is used to evaluate WellOne’s performance under the provisions of our federal grant. I would like to share with you some of the highlights from this report, which provide insights about the patients that we served in 2016:
1. A total of 15,098 unique patients received services from WellOne during 2016. This total amounts to 722 more patients than were served by WellOne during 2015 and represents the highest total in the organization’s history.2. WellOne generated 56,300 patient encounters (visits) including 30,600 medical visits; 18,800 dental visits and 6,900 behavioral health visits.
3. 7% of patients had no health insurance. 37% were covered by Medicaid. 41% had private insurance and 15% were insured by Medicare.
4. The majority of patients served reside in our traditional service area.
5. During 2016, WellOne provided nearly $500,000 in charity care. This total represents the difference between the charges for our services and the amounts remitted by patients under the provisions of our sliding fee scale program.
