Integrating Behavioral Health with Primary Medical Care

WellOne Primary Medical and Dental Care, a Federally Qualified Health Center with facilities in Pascoag, North Kingstown and Foster, is pleased to announce that it has added Behavioral Health Services to its Foster facility at 142A Danielson Pike. Behavioral care is also available at WellOne’s other sites.

“A growing body of research indicates that behavioral health has become an integral component of our healthcare system,” states Clifford I. Gordon, Ed.D., WellOne’s Director of Behavioral Health Services. “Unfortunately most people with behavioral health conditions don’t receive help. By coordinating behavioral health services with our primary medical care, we are able to address both the physical and mental issues of our patients and reduce the stigma often associated with seeking treatment.”

Gordon noted that Maureen O’Shea, PhD, LMHC, who was previously seeing patients in the Pascoag facility, will launch the new program at the Foster site. A licensed mental health counselor, Dr. O’Shea has extensive experience in providing counseling and psychotherapy to individuals of all ages. Known for her compassion and listening skills, Dr. O’Shea offers individual, couple, family, adult, children and adolescent counseling to address a wide range of issues, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, stress, relationships, child and adolescent concerns, parenting, and substance abuse.

As a Federally Qualified Health Center, WellOne must serve an underserved area or population, offer a sliding fee scale, provide comprehensive services, have an ongoing quality assurance program, and have a governing board of directors.

WellOne, like all community health centers, is committed to providing high-quality healthcare to all regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, creed, income or insurance status. Our services include a full scope of primary medical, dental and behavioral health care, with additional social support services. Our agency also provides pharmacy services, on site laboratory, school health and special programs to help individuals access other needed services. WellOne is one of the only organizations in the state to accept unlimited numbers of uninsured and Medicaid patients.

Established in 1909, WellOne is the oldest nonprofit community health center in Rhode Island, and the first rural health clinic in the nation.
